THE JESS HOWARD ELECTRIC COMPANY IS A FAMILY-OWNED BUSINESS THAT HAS BEEN DOING ALL PHASES OF ELECTRICAL CONTRACTING WORK SINCE 1945. We have established lasting relationships with many residential, commercial, and industrial utility customers. We are a unique electrical contractor due to the fact that we perform so many different types of electrical work. We perform residential, commercial, and industrial electrical work, including sports lighting, airport lighting, traffic signal, underground systems, pole-line, and utility work. With over 120 employees and 300 pieces of equipment, there is no job too small or too large for Jess Howard Electric Company.
POSITION DESCRIPTION DETAILS
The Safety Coordinator within our Electrical Contracting Company holds a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees while adhering to industry-specific safety standards. Reporting to the Human Resources Director, this position is responsible for implementing, maintaining, and improving safety policies and procedures throughout the organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
- Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies and procedures specific to electrical contracting operations.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of work sites, equipment, and tools to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Provide safety training and orientation for new employees, focusing on electrical safety practices, hazard recognition, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Collaborate with project managers and supervisors to develop job-specific safety plans and protocols for each project.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and develop recommendations to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain accurate records of safety-related incidents, inspections, training sessions, and corrective actions.
- Coordinate and participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety committee meetings.
- Monitor subcontractors and vendors to ensure compliance with safety requirements.
- Stay current on industry best practices, regulations, and emerging safety technologies.
- Assist in the procurement, inspection, and maintenance of safety equipment and PPE.
- Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies and participate in safety-related audits and inspections.
- Prepare and submit safety reports and documentation as required by regulatory agencies or company policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional certification (e.g., CSP, CUSP), or equivalent experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of electrical safety regulations, including NFPA 70E and OSHA standards.
- Previous experience in electrical contracting or a similar industry is highly preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively train and educate employees on safety protocols.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
- Familiarity with conducting job hazard analyses and incident investigations.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

SALARY RANGE
$45-75k, based on experience
